Ethel Kennedy to endorse Barack Obama?

I'm hearing some very interesting rumours from an anonymous source which could be great news for Barack.

Ethel Kennedy , widow of Senator Bobby Kennedy , supposedly compared her husband to Obama.

This is like Ronald Reagan widow endorsing a republican candidate - This is the kind of support that they'd do anything to get because of the popularity of Ronald Reagan.

Bobby Kennedy is a legend in the mind of many democrats and to have his wife not only complimenting Obama's work but actually comparing him to Bobby , has got to be sweet to all Obama supporters out there....Obama is very Kennedy-like and majestic.

This is from the source.

Ethel Kennedy - widow of Senator Bobby Kennedy
"I think he feels it. He feels it just like Bobby did," Ethel Kennedy said, comparing her late husband's quest for social justice to Obama's. "He has the passion in his heart. He's not selling you. It's just him." Ethel Kennedy invited Obama to deliver the keynote address at a ceremony commemorating the 80th birthday of Robert F. Kennedy. She said she had carefully followed the career of the Illinois senator, whom she referred to as "our next president."

Interesting if true, but I'll need to see more than just an "anonymous source" since according to anonymous sources, Zombie Reagan will endorse Fred Thompson next week.

Re: Ethyl Kennedy to endorse Barack Obama? (none / 0)

That was really funny , I was almost rolling over when I read it.

You know this is the first time I am hearing of Ethyl Kennedy .

Didn't Bobby Kennedy die in the 60's , how old is she now ?

Anyway , It will be good for Obama , I guess.

(Sorry, bad chemistry joke.)

Indeed, because everything I say has to be about HRC... even Ethyl puns. How un-ethylcal.

Re: Ethyl Kennedy to endorse Barack Obama? (none / 0)

there are nice jokes, eg, this one at DKos:

I guess she and Obama had good chemistry (4+ / 0-)
Or something like that.

That's funny.

Your joke was funny too, but not in great taste about an old woman and esp. given the Republicans' nonstop derisive jokes about the Kennedys.

Oh come on.. I said nothing about her personally. I'd never heard of her, to be honest. I don't even know what she looks like... if she's tall of if she's short; if she's thick or ethylene...

Please tell me this is a joke.

Please tell me that you are not blogging on a Democratic site and
telling Democrats who the next Democratic president should be,
yet don't -- at the very least -- know exactly which year RFK died.

I don't remember ever telling anyone who to vote for , I suspect you have a mind of your own to make that decision.

And that comment was more in relation to the age of his wife .

By the way I didn't know there was a litmus test for blogging on this site .

" Bobby Kennedy is a legend in the mind of many democrats "

-  Nope not me , maybe others .

" Obama is very Kennedy-like and majestic."

-  That is just bizarre . How is  he majestic?.

Overall if She endorses Obama , its good for morale and nothing else I suspect.

However I checked her age , She is 80 yrs old . Nice to know.

Here's How (2.00 / 1)

"Majestic" simply means displaying power, authority, or dignity, greatness of quality or character, or being stately. I would hope that we could describe whoever wins the Democratic Presidential nomination as "majestic."

Re: Here's How (none / 0)

You should have been here when Matthews described Clinton's MSNBC debate performance in that way.  The howling was eardrum shattering (in this case eyedrum shattering.)   I guess many posters don't believe as you do that the term "majestic" would fit all our candidates.

Re: Ethel Kennedy to endorse Barack Obama? (none / 0)

Hmm.  Looks like the might be legit...

http://www.draftobama.org/celebrities

Ethel Kennedy is listed there, praising Obama.

But if this is real, you'd figure it would have gotten a lot more attention.  The wife of one the Democratic party's greatest icons endorses one our current presidential candidates and it gets almost no media attention?  That sounds a little messed up to me.

by Namtrix on Fri Aug 31, 2007 at 01:46:53 AM EST

Re: Ethel Kennedy to endorse Barack Obama? (none / 0)

You better believe that if there was an official endorsement that the Obama campaign would have been smart enough to send press releases and memos to every news outlet they would have in their database.   So, either they are totally inept (which I don't believe) or the comments were very nice, but not an explicit endorsement, at least not as of yet, which is the most likely scenario.

You know, for a candidate who rejects the old ways of Washington, Obama sure is reaching back into history to dig up endorsements. First Zbig, now Ethyl. Those two are sure gonna have the college kids dancin' in streets with excitment.

Are Ethyl and zombie Reagan jokes that bad? It's a recycled year old newspaper article passed of as insider information. Combined with a silly introduction explaining who Bobby Kennedy was.

Come on, must this site always be deadly serious?

I think you have singlehandedly done a great job to do just that for your candidate, Obama.   Diaries so extreme with their bashing they have to be deleted by admins, taglines used to bash the leading candidate rather than lift up your candidate.   The list is endless.

Glass houses.

Re: Ethel Kennedy to endorse Barack Obama? (2.00 / 1)

JaeHood's "anonymous source" is an old Chicago Tribune article from Nov 2005.

JaeHood, you always make me laugh w/ your anonymous whispers and sources. Every time I read your stuff, "Heard It From the Grapevine" is playing somewhere in the background.

Anyway, good luck with the endorsement possibility. Her daughter, Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, former Lt Gov of MD is backing Clinton, although I doubt this has much value as she's essentially retired from politics after losing the governorship in 2002.

p.s. Here's a link to a reprint of the original article.

Can you explain why you use an article from 2005 and dress it up as some "new stuff," a "rumor" from an anonymous source?   The comments the "rumor" is based on are ancient.   What the heck?

It would be nice if you actually sourced your information. I expect that if there will be any endorsement from the Kennedy clan it will be for Hillary.
